My Approach

Welcome! Over many years of clinical work I have found that helping clients identify what truly matters to them, their core values, is the key to making change. We then work together to make these things happen, working around the barriers and overcoming the challenges together. For me, therapy is really a collaboration.

I work mainly from an Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach, which sees that when we are living authentically and aligned with our values we are more engaged with our lives, more connected to the people around us and more accepting of ourselves and others.

ACT has solid evidence that it is effective for many of the mental health challenges we face, including depression, stress & burnout, anxiety, loneliness, trauma, grief & loss, and addiction in its many forms. It is also helpful when we are in transition periods in our life, whether that be in relationships, job roles and careers, discovering our neurodiversity, or working out our sexuality or gender identity.

Based in cognitive-behavioural principals, ACT works directly on the relationship between our thoughts, our feelings and how we behave. The emphasis is on being curious about our experiences, learning to notice our internal processes, and then considering what actually works for us. Key to this is learning new skills to not get caught in our inner dialogue as well as really getting clear on who were are and what’s important to us.

I have over 15 years experience working with  clients and the struggles they face in their lives. This includes experience working with trauma, mood and anxiety, OCD, neurodiversity, sexuality and gender identity. Other modalities that I incorporate into my work include trauma-focussed CBT, Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems Therapy.

The other part of my work is providing Professional Supervision to students on placement in their Clinical Masters programs as well as other Psychologists at different stages in their work life.
